For any digital marketer or webmaster using HubSpot, understanding how to manage the sitemap is crucial for optimizing SEO results. Viewing Your HubSpot Sitemap

To view your sitemap in HubSpot, you need to access the settings of your account. Navigate to Website > Domains & URLs and select the Sitemap tab. Here, you can click View XML file to see your sitemap in a new tab. Alternatively, adding /sitemap.xml to the end of your domain URL in a browser will also bring up your sitemap.

Editing Your HubSpot Sitemap

HubSpot automatically includes all live, hosted website pages and blog posts in your sitemap. However, landing pages and certain other content types are not automatically added and require manual inclusion. To edit your sitemap:

  1. In your HubSpot account, click the settings icon.
  2. Navigate to Website > Domains & URLs.
  3. Click the Sitemap tab.
  4. Select a sitemap from the Domain dropdown menu.
  5. To add a new page, click + Add a page, select the page, and then click Add.
  6. To exclude a page, hover over it and click Remove.
  7. To customize page settings in your sitemap, hover over a page and click Options. Here, you can adjust the change frequency and priority of the page before saving your changes.

Remember, changes to your sitemap may take up to 30 minutes to reflect. Also, removing a page from your sitemap does not prevent search engines from indexing it. For that, you'll need to use other methods, such as updating your robots.txt file or using meta tags to prevent indexing.

Additional Considerations for HubSpot Sitemaps

While HubSpot simplifies the process of managing your sitemap, there are limitations and additional considerations to keep in mind:

  • HubDB dynamic child pages are included in the sitemap only if the parent page is included.
  • There is no option to add custom tags beyond the standard URL set, location, last modified, change frequency, and priority tags provided by HubSpot.
  • Landing pages and knowledge base pages are not automatically added to your sitemap and must be manually included.
